Is having a great product or a service is the only requirement to run a successful business? Definitely not. It is necessary that potential customers should know that a product exists, what it does and why. Because to generate sales lead from a potential customer to understand that a product exists, what the product does and how useful and beneficial it is than a competitor’s product. The success of an organization depends upon how sales and marketing teams exploit, in collaboration. Sales and Marketing are two very different functions and require very different skills. But in some way these two need to work together and support one another.
Sales is the team whose job it is to sell the existing products or whatever is in the stock and developing relationships with customers and/or channel partners. They visit doors to door, overcome barriers of objections, pricing negotiations & terms and they work in the team in internal departments to make sure that customer’s orders are fulfilled. Whereas a marketing team ensures that they understand the marketplace in client’s perspective towards company and decides where company should be in the future. They modify the product offerings, pricing and communication so that it meets the needs. Markets are constantly changing. The job of marketing is to stay ahead of the changes, and help the sales see where they should be going and provide them with the right strategy.
As stated earlier without Sales, marketing efforts run short; however, if Marketing becomes only a sales support function who is mainly focused on the now, so the company will lose the sight on the future. Also, if the Marketing is focused on today’s strategy, organization will not have anything to do in the coming future, it will be the last thing to happen to any organization. This limits growth not only for Sales and Marketing, but also for your entire organization. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to have a right strategy in place for Sales and Marketing at right time.
